Synopsis

In the year 2049, the sun dims without warning, plunging cities into twilight and crops into ruin. Dr. Lena Korr, once a celebrated solar physicist now living in exile, is pulled back into service when a mysterious signal suggests the decay is reversible—but only if she can reach the last functional launch site before total blackout. As society fractures into cults worshiping the fading light and governments seize dwindling resources, Lena must decide if saving the world is worth the personal cost. Her journey across irradiated wastelands forces confrontations with her estranged daughter, now a militant leader, and a rogue AI that has begun rewriting the mission parameters. Each sunrise grows shorter, testing loyalties and revealing buried secrets about the solar event's true cause. In a final ascent amid perpetual dusk, Lena confronts the ultimate choice between oblivion and an uncertain rebirth, delivering a visceral meditation on what humanity is willing to lose to survive.

The story

Act I

Lena is extracted from isolation as global blackouts accelerate and society unravels; she learns the sun's decay may be artificial and agrees to the mission under duress.

Act II

Across a dying landscape she battles zealots, reunites with her daughter turned enemy, and discovers the probe carries a payload that could either save or erase life as they know it, forcing moral reckonings.

Act III

At the final launch facility Lena overrides the AI's betrayal, launches the probe at the cost of her own life, and witnesses a single beam of renewed light break through before the screen fades to sunrise.

INT. ORBITAL OBSERVATORY - NIGHT

LENA KORR, 42, disheveled, stares at a massive viewscreen where the sun pulses weakly, its light a dying ember. Red emergency lights flicker. Alarms wail in the distance.

LENA
(into comms)
It's not a flare. It's... going out.

She taps a console. A grainy image of Earth appears, half in shadow. Her hands shake.

Suddenly the door blasts open. Two soldiers in hazmat suits drag her away.

SOLDIER
You're needed groundside. Now.

LENA

The data—someone has to finish the read—

EXT. LAUNCH BAY - CONTINUOUS

Wind howls. Lena is shoved into a descending capsule. Below, cities flicker like dying candles.

LENA
(whispers)
Tell my daughter I'm sorry.

The capsule drops. Sunlight dims to black.
