A solitary Tokyo tobacco shop owner’s daily “good mornings” spark unexpected connections that unravel his quiet routine and revive a fading neighborhood.
Synopsis
In the bustling backstreets of Tokyo, elderly shopkeeper Hiroshi greets each customer with the same cheerful phrase from his corner tobacco stand. Behind the counter he quietly observes the dreams, heartbreaks, and secrets of students, salarymen, and artists who pass through his door each morning. When a young writer starts chronicling his greetings and a long-lost daughter unexpectedly returns, Hiroshi’s simple rituals collide with change, forcing him to confront the loneliness he’s hidden for decades. The shop becomes a crossroads where small kindnesses ripple outward, healing fractured lives. As the neighborhood faces redevelopment, Hiroshi must decide whether to keep his door open or let the past close it forever, proving that the most ordinary voices can still shape extraordinary stories.
